Monoprint

Monoprint with leaves

This print has been hanging in my office, clipped to a string over my drawing board, for a long time now - several months I think. This morning I decided that I rather like it.

Printing in this method - really just seeing what the ink will do - is so satisfying to me. I think I often overthink, and these monoprints get past that. An artist I admire told me recently that to be satisfied with our artwork, we need to stop thinking so much and reach instead into our subconscious. It is amazing, he said, what we have hidden deep within.

Falling into Fall

It's Autumn! I love Autumn! Except that up here in the North where we live, Autumn always brings with it the ominous knowledge that Winter is just around the corner.

Burlington, VT Farmers Market

So, since it is Autumn and I made that lovely list of "Summer Projects," I figure I should report on how that went. To put it simply, not so swell.

First, the accomplishments:

Flags were made and enjoyed
• Headboard was made (picture to come after some, ahem, cleaning action). Although it is not quite as plush or ornate as the one from Pottery Barn, I quite like it.
• One quilt top finished. Currently laid out nicely under all the other half-completed projects on my office couch/guestbed. Quilting is more of a fall/winter activity anyway.

And the un-accomplishments:

• Dress sewing. Not done. But I am pretty sure this little lady is going to keep liking dresses, and I have found a few more to add to the to-make list, so...
• Quilts goes on this list too, as I daftly planned to make multiples.
• Wedding save-the-dates (or STDs as they are known in the wedding-blog-world - gross!). Turns out our set it and run approach to choosing a date was not so effective. I think we have it nailed down now, fingers crossed that the location is still available!

I will be back soon to show you what we did instead of madly quilting during the month of August.

Jumping into Wedding!

We are planning a wedding. And, as it turns out, this is about all I can think about these days. I should have known, I like to plan.

We are about a year out, and I am really afraid that my family and friends are already sick of hearing about this. Or if they aren't yet, they will be soon. So I am nipping that problem in the proverbial bud and turning to this here space, this outlet to the unknown world - kind of like talking to a large empty room that may or may not be full of microphones. Now, anyone can stop by and behold these Very Important Dilemmas and Details, and when it turns out said details aren't that important after all, the visitor is welcome to click away. Perfect. No wonder there are so many wedding blogs out there!

At this point, we have lots of ideas, we have a location, we have a bunch of photographer prospects, we basically have food, we have the cake. We don't really have a date...

We have lots of ideas and excitement and I think that's a good thing. We are happy planning this together and are learning a lot along the way. I'll be back with pictures.

Tendrils

Whew, August is over. What a month!

Aren't these amazing? I am discovering the beauty of a longer lens.
