Hot Glass

While I was in Tucson I dug out the copper enamel supplies and spent two days thoroughly engaged in pendant, wine charm and mini-platter making. This is a magical medium, where fairly dull glass dust and small pieces of copper are placed in an oven and something mysterious and wonderful happens and jewels emerge. It is truly amazing.

And - should I admit this? - it actually takes very little talent because it is really quite difficult to make something that does not turn out beautiful. And if something is not to ones liking, a little more glass can be added and back into the oven it goes! A constant amazement and surprise - nothing ever turns out the same twice in a row. One can have an approximation of what will happen, and there are plenty of people with incredible patience who make all sorts of intricate designs and painting-like pieces, but I am always way too excited to see what is going to happen and too thrilled with my somewhat fateful results to become very technically skillful.

Oh well. But aren't they gorgeous?

(These are headed to a little art festival in Virginia)

Homecoming

I have so much to share - one big and exciting (and incredibly heavy) new project, some recent creations, and a few new ideas. But those will have to wait, because tonight I am dead tired after an overnight flight across this whole darn country (we are quite big!), and trying to recover from the shock of leaving this:

Unplugging...

I have to send my computer in for repairs, so a short unplugging will also be taking place. Well, sort of. My job requires mainly computer work, so I will most definitely be plugged in most of the day, but I will not be around here, or etsy, or flickr... oh dear, it makes me sad just to think of it!

See you in a week!

A Little Bit of This... a Little Bit of That...

I got to make an Etsy treasury today. For those unfamiliar with the coveted treasuries, they are the Etsy community members' opportunity to curate a one page "gallery" of items from around the site. It is poor etiquette to showcase one's own items, instead people often group a selection of their favorites, or follow a specific theme or color. The treasuries are immensely popular and are infrequently available, so I always feel as if I have accomplished something when I score one.

Anyway, these are definitely some of my very favorite finds recently, and I am almost feeling foolish to be sharing them. But really, I have no business buying anything right now, so if someone else snatches them up they will be doing me a favor.

And I suppose if they snatch them up and then mail them to a certain address in Burlington Vermont, I wouldn't be at all opposed... !

Go to the treasury to find links to each of the items + the creators shops, filled with so many more incredible pieces!

My Images, right?

So this evening I was skimming my stats, and I noticed a lot of web referrals coming from a certain myspace page. Being the curious person I am, of course I followed the link to the page, where I was surprised to be greeted by one of my own photos! It was the background of the page, and actually looked rather neat. Since I was getting a lot of traffic from the site, I looked around on it to find where the link to my site was located, and after a while of not finding it realized that the image itself was coming from my site - ie, everyone who looked at this myspace page was using up bandwidth on my website.

Now, I am not one to go berzerk about my photos - I realize full well that by posting things on the internet I am letting them out into the world. Additionally, I am hardly in a position to be concerned about overloading my website's traffic limits. Still, when I saw my photo there and concluded what was happening, I felt somewhat miffed. And so I went and renamed the image.

And then I was immediately racked with guilt that I had ruined this girl's myspace page. So Gina from Altoona, if you care enough to find this again, please feel free to use this image:

Maybe just give me credit though. And realize that in the future, if you ask someone, they often will be flattered you liked their work. But taking images without asking is, technically - even online - stealing, and against the copyright rules.

Yippee! Mail for Me!

I got my little box of paper doll postcards in the mail today! I personally enjoy these way too much, and I hope some other people will as well. Here is the new little lady:

And here she is again in her darling wool coat and cute little matching hat and scarf set (I also love the boots - that's the beauty of paper dolls: I can dress them in the clothing I covet!):
