Paper Dolls of My Own

Same dolls, new format! I am now offering the dolls found on my Paper Doll Postcards in full-sheet format, starting off with PDF downloads. Each doll has a few extra items of clothing added, and they are a bit bigger than the postcard version. Plus, if you buy a PDF you can print as many as you like!

I do have a new doll in the works, but there is someone living in my studio at the moment, so all new projects have been put on hold. Ever notice how when you are out of reach of supplies, the ideas just swarm like pigeons? Its frustrating. But hopefully, if I write everything down, the minute I get my space back a whirlwind of productivity will ensue. One can dream...

Presidential Paper Dolls

I love Dover. Maybe I have mentioned this before? They have such a terrific selection of paper dolls, and they publish the dolls of Tom Tierney, who is one of my early favorite artists. Yes, I have written about him before, I guess I'm really a fan!

This time, I bring it up because i just saw the Obama Family commemorative dolls. Very neat. The faces are a tad off, which disappoints me a little, but I think they are recognizable. I'm wondering if I should order a set and start a for-real paper doll collection?

'Droiding my time away...

Last night I learned of The Poladroid via this post, and spent way too much time transforming my boring regular pictures into totally cool polaroid-like pictures. Then I joined the flickr group and saw how other people went even further messing up their pictures to look beaten and old and drawn on and coffee stained, and of course I had to go and find some coffee stains and wrinkles and such to play with as well.

Funny how much fun it is to take a perfectly clear photo and make it look like its spent days on the floor of a grungy diner. And the photos that really look best as "polaroids" are the throw away pictures, the snapshots that seem a bit awkward in their original pristine condition.

I have to admit, I have wanted a polaroid camera since my mom borrowed one for work when I was about five. They are like magic and its really so sad that they, along with the rest of the film world, are fading out of existence.

Stumbling into the New Year

Does anyone know a good way of making good with the Universe?

Here's the deal: I traveled home on the red-eye from Arizona, arriving at my door around noon on New Years Eve. I am also a wuss, and so refused to go out that night, opting to laze (and sleep) on my own couch. Lame, I know. I did get champagne, however, and I read this post and was intrigued with the idea of jumping into the New Year.

So, I woke with a start when the countdown was at 26 seconds. Groggy and slightly tipsy, I remembered the jumping idea at about two seconds. I leapt to my feet on the couch and made an extravagantly uncoordinated flying stumble to the floor into 2009. And I think I really offended the powers that be. Things have just been slightly strange ever since. I'm doing whatever I can think of to sort it out, but if you have any suggestions...
