Monoprint

Monoprint with leaves

This print has been hanging in my office, clipped to a string over my drawing board, for a long time now - several months I think. This morning I decided that I rather like it.

Printing in this method - really just seeing what the ink will do - is so satisfying to me. I think I often overthink, and these monoprints get past that. An artist I admire told me recently that to be satisfied with our artwork, we need to stop thinking so much and reach instead into our subconscious. It is amazing, he said, what we have hidden deep within.

oooh, i really like this! printmaking is one art form (among many) that i've never given a fair try. i love your description of the process - i'm a big fan of letting go of the thinking, and having intuition take over.
